🌱 Why Some Plants Are Toxic for Pets
Many common houseplants contain natural compounds — like calcium oxalate crystals, saponins, or alkaloids — that help them defend against insects or animals in the wild. Unfortunately, those same compounds can irritate a pet’s mouth or stomach.
Toxic plants include popular species like Monstera, Dieffenbachia (Dumb Cane), Pothos, and Philodendron.
While these beauties are great for plant lovers, they’re best kept away from curious paws.
If you ever notice your cat or dog chewing on a leaf or drooling after nibbling a plant, contact your vet and check the ASPCA’s list of toxic plants for reference.

🐶 How to Introduce New Plants When You Have Pets
Even safe plants need a little adjustment period when they move into a new home — especially if your pet is curious!
Here are a few tips to start right:
-
Place plants up high when you first bring them in. Let your pets get used to the new smells before moving them lower.
 -
Supervise during the first week. Most pets lose interest once the novelty fades.
 -
Choose natural soil without chemical fertilizers. Jenisprouts uses organic mixes safe for homes with pets and kids.
 -
Create “yes zones.” Give your pet their own green area — a tray of cat grass or catnip for example — to redirect curiosity.
 -
Positive training works! Reward them when they ignore your plants.
